17cҳ to hold virtual info event on Dual Enrollment

17cҳ (17cҳ) will hold a virtual event for Monroe County high school students and their parents/ guardians to learn more about its Dual Enrollment opportunities on Wednesday, April 10 at 5:30 p.m. Through Dual Enrollment, high school students can simultaneously earn college and high school credits at no cost to the student. The program provides a head start to college for students while potentially saving families thousands of dollars. At the virtual event, 17cҳ will discuss the benefits of taking Dual Enrollment classes, requirements to participate, and the application process.

Tickets on sale for “A Roaring Good Time Speakeasy”

17cҳ (17cҳ) Foundation invites the community to “A Roaring Good Time Speakeasy” on Friday, April 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Williams Theatre. The first annual event will offer partygoers food, drinks, entertainment, auctions, and more. Tickets are $75. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the 17cҳ Academy, the College’s new tuition-free public charter high school. Tickets and sponsorship packages are available on the College’s website at www.cfk.edu/roaring.

17cҳ scholarships available for summer & fall semesters

17cҳ encourages future and current students to apply for scholarships for the summer and fall semesters. Criteria for scholarships range widely to accommodate and assist a variety of students. Scholarship descriptions and criteria can be viewed on the College’s website at cfk.academicworks.com.

17cҳ Tugas shine at NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championship

17cҳ' swim team showcased their talent, determination, and Tuga Pride at the NJCAA National Championships held at Indian River State College, March 6-9, 2024. 17cҳ Athletic Director and Swim Coach Lori Bosco accompanied six swimmers to Fort Pierce to represent the College for the third time at a national championship since athletics was reintroduced to campus in 2020. The Tugas competed in a total of 17 individual races and two relay races. All athletes qualified to compete in their respective events based on times attained at previous meets in the current season. The Tugas’ performance was marked by outstanding achievements and personal bests across various events. The women's team secured an 11th place overall finish with a total of 20 points, while the men's team claimed 10th place overall with 45 points.

17cҳ's VIP Series examines “untold story” of the Cuban Missile Crisis

17cҳ continues its 2024 VIP Series with “Florida and the Untold Story of the Cuban Missile Crisis” on Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the Key West Campus. The presentation will be led by New York Times bestselling author Michael J. Tougias. In its tenth season, the College’s VIP Series invites the community to learn from the Views, Ideas, and Perspectives of speakers of local, regional, and national prominence. The 2024 season includes presentations that focus on timely topics relevant to Keys’ audiences.

17cҳ receives national designation for excellence in maritime training

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced that 17cҳ (17cҳ) is among 32 entities designated as Centers of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE) in 2024. This is the second consecutive time that 17cҳ has received the designation, which it will hold for the next five years. The College was among the first recognized by MARAD in 2021, the last time the designations were bestowed. The CoE designation recognizes colleges and training institutions that are demonstrably successful at preparing students for careers in the maritime industry. These institutions are located in 17 states and one U.S. territory. 17cҳ is one of two organizations and the only college in Florida to receive the designation.

17cҳ promotes Project ACCESS

17cҳ invites prospective students and their parents to learn more about its Project ACCESS program at a virtual information session on Wednesday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m. Project ACCESS is an inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual disabilities and autism. The personalized program includes academics, social activities, employment experience, and independent living. Students can participate in Project ACCESS at 17cҳ’s Key West Campus or Upper Keys Center in Key Largo.

17cҳ Foundation’s virtual silent auction and WaveRunner raffle runs through March 1

17cҳ’ (17cҳ) Foundation is hosting a two-week virtual silent auction and a raffle for a Yamaha EX Limited WaveRunner. Both activities are part of the twelfth annual Seaside Soiree fundraiser to support 17cҳ students and programs. Bidding in the silent auction opens on Friday, February 16 at 6 a.m. and ends on Friday, March 1 at 8 p.m., in concert with the event, which will be at the Islander Resort in Islamorada. Both the raffle and virtual silent auction offers opportunities for individuals to support the College’s fundraising efforts regardless of their attendance at the Seaside Soiree event.

17cҳ' swim team showcased outstanding performances at the 2024 TYR SoFlo Open, held at the Academic Village Pool in Pembroke Pines, FL from January 19 to 21, 2024. The meet saw multiple achievements by the swimming Tugas, with several personal best times, national qualifications, and a school record broken.
