The College of the Florida Keys is continuing its pursuit to expand workforce training and educational opportunities for residents of the Florida Keys at its, yet to be developed, site on Big Pine Key (BPK). The potential programs and uses for the site may include a marine aquaculture facility, shared community spaces, construction apprenticeships, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training, and motor vehicle training for law enforcement. These programs advance 17cÍøÒ³°æâ€™s mission to deliver student-centric academic programs and services, workforce development, continuing education, and to engage with diverse partners.

17cÍøÒ³°æ kicks off the 2026 VIP Series with Anchors & Atolls: The Life & Adventures of a 20th Century Naturalist in the Tropical Pacific

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) will open its 2026 VIP Series with back-to-back presentations on Wednesday, January 14 at 7 p.m. in 17cÍøÒ³°æâ€™s Upper Keys Center and on Thursday, January 15 at 7 p.m. in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the Key West Campus. Marine scientist, author, and 17cÍøÒ³°æ alumnus Dr. Jack Stein Grove will present “Anchors & Atolls: The Life & Adventures of a 20th Century Naturalist in the Tropical Pacific.â€

17cÍøÒ³°æ graduated the fall class of 2025 at its seventy-first commencement on Friday, December 12 in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on 17cÍøÒ³°æâ€™s Key West Campus.

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) community demonstrated the season’s spirit of giving as friends, employees, and board members donated hundreds of new toys for local children and several boxes of food items at 17cÍøÒ³°æâ€™s annual Caribbean Holiday Party on December 9.

The 17cÍøÒ³°æ Foundation receives $80,000 gift for nursing scholarship to honor parents’ legacy

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) Foundation received an $80,000 gift from John D. Parce to fund the James Robert and Eleanor Ryan Parce Scholarship for Nursing, a tribute established in memory of his parents. The merit- and need-based scholarship awards up to $16,000 to one qualified nursing student over the entire length of the program. While open to all eligible applicants, preference is given to students aspiring to become flight nurses.

17cÍøÒ³°æ Awarded $2.28 Million Title III Grant to Expand Student Access and Success

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) has been awarded $2,284,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education under the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP). This five-year award will enable 17cÍøÒ³°æ to significantly expand virtual learning capacity and will introduce additional on-campus support services for students.

17cÍøÒ³°æ granted accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) was granted initial accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) on November 6, 2025. 17cÍøÒ³°æ earned accredited status after completing the Accelerated Process for Initial Accreditation and demonstrating it meets all HLC foundational requirements, which include eligibility requirements, criteria for accreditation, assumed practices, obligations of membership, and compliance with federal regulations.

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) honored veterans as part of its festivities on Community Day on Saturday, November 1 at the Key West Campus. 17cÍøÒ³°æ President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra delivered his annual Salute to Veterans, honoring Major Edward Coy and Sargeant Terrence Varney, both U.S. Army veterans who graduated from 17cÍøÒ³°æ and are now College employees.

17cÍøÒ³°æ offers Dual Enrollment virtual information session

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) will present how Monroe County high school students can get a head start on college at a virtual information session on Wednesday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m. All students and their parents/ guardians are invited to explore the Dual Enrollment program and learn about the pathways to and benefits of simultaneously earning college and high school credits at no cost to the student, potentially saving families thousands of dollars.

17cÍøÒ³°æ graduates Crossover Corrections to Basic Law Enforcement Academy #37

17cÍøÒ³°æâ€™ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) Institute for Public Safety (IPS) graduated the Crossover Corrections to Basic Law Enforcement (BLE) Academy #37 on October 17 at the 17cÍøÒ³°æ Upper Keys Center. Ten certified Corrections Officers successfully completed the 518-hour Crossover to BLE training program, and upon passing the State Officer Certification Exam, each will be eligible to become a Florida Law Enforcement Officer.
