17cÍøÒ³°æ opens VIP Series with back-to-back Galapagos presentations

17cÍøÒ³°æ will open its 2025 VIP Series with back-to-back presentations on Wednesday, January 15 at 7 p.m. at 17cÍøÒ³°æâ€™s Upper Keys Center in Key Largo and on Thursday, January 16 at 7 p.m. in the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the Key West Campus. Marine scientist, author, and 17cÍøÒ³°æ alumnus Dr. Jack Stein Grove will present “Galapagos Fishes, From the Shore to the Abyss and From Darwin to DNA.â€

17cÍøÒ³°æ donates toys to Samuel’s House

Friends, employees, and board members of 17cÍøÒ³°æ brought dozens of new toys for local children and non-perishable food items to 17cÍøÒ³°æâ€™s annual Caribbean Holiday Party on December 16, hosted by 17cÍøÒ³°æ President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra and his wife Josephine. The toys were donated to Samuel’s House, a Keys-based non-profit organization that offers housing and supportive services for homeless women and intact families. The food was donated to Tuga Shelves, the College’s food pantry on the Key West Campus for food insecure students.

17cÍøÒ³°æ hires new Vice President of Secondary Education and Principal of 17cÍøÒ³°æ Academy

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) welcomes Dr. Ja-Ronika Veldheer as the new Vice President of Secondary Education and Principal of 17cÍøÒ³°æ Academy. She will start full-time as the leader of the College’s tuition-free public charter high school in January 2025.

17cÍøÒ³°æ Tugas compete at Gulliver Gobble-Gobble Meet

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) Tugas swim teams participated in the Gulliver Gobble-Gobble November Last Chance meet on November 23-24, 2024, at Gulliver Prep School in Miami, FL. The men's and women's teams achieved significant milestones, including personal best times and more qualifications for the national championship in March 2025 in Buffalo, NY.

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) honored veterans as part of its festivities on Community Day on Saturday, November 2 at the Key West Campus. 17cÍøÒ³°æ President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra delivered his annual Salute to Veterans, honoring Major Mark Tobin, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, 17cÍøÒ³°æ alumnus, 17cÍøÒ³°æ employee, and 17cÍøÒ³°æ scholarship supporter.

17cÍøÒ³°æ to hold virtual info event on Dual Enrollment

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) will hold a virtual event for Monroe County high school students and their parents/ guardians to learn more about its Dual Enrollment opportunities on Wednesday, November 6 at 5:30 p.m. Through Dual Enrollment, high school students can simultaneously earn college and high school credits at no cost to the student. The program provides a head start to college for students while potentially saving families thousands of dollars. At the virtual event, 17cÍøÒ³°æ will discuss the benefits of taking Dual Enrollment classes, requirements to participate, and the application process.

17cÍøÒ³°æ Poetics to feature Gabrielle Calvocoressi on November 7

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) invites the community to attend a 17cÍøÒ³°æ Poetics event on Thursday, November 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Willliams Theatre on the Key West Campus. Acclaimed poet Gabrielle Calvocoressi will present a live reading of her work and take questions from the audience. The event is free for all attendees.

17cÍøÒ³°æ invites all to Community Day on Nov. 2

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) invites all to its tenth annual Community Day on Saturday, November 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the Key West Campus. The free, family-friendly event will feature a full slate of attractions—including 17cÍøÒ³°æ academic showcases, interactive exhibits, live performances, a bounce house and other children's activities, vendors, music, free food and drinks, and free T-shirts.

17cÍøÒ³°æ graduates Law Enforcement Academy #90

 17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ)’s Institute for Public Safety (IPS) held a graduation ceremony for Basic Law Enforcement Academy #90 on October 11 at the Key West Campus. Eighteen cadets successfully completed the 770-hour training program. Upon passing the state certification exam, each will be eligible to become a Florida Law Enforcement Officer.

Creepy Campus Ghost Tours to benefit the 17cÍøÒ³°æ Academy

17cÍøÒ³°æ (17cÍøÒ³°æ) Foundation, in partnership with Island Tales, invites the community to participate in a Creepy Campus Ghost Tour on Sunday, October 13 or Monday, October 28. The hour-long walks through the Key West Campus will be held at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. both evenings. Island Tales tour guide Amy Andrade and will share ghost tales and spooky legends about haunted lighthouses, murder, betrayal, diseases, natural disasters, and ghosts that haunt the Florida Keys. Light refreshments will be served.
